    KODAK FILM STOCK
Film Type Can Size ASA/Cat# Price Per
    5245 400 50D / 819-1140 $264.24
    5248 400 100T / 156-8898 $252.24
    5274 400 200T / 171-6984 $287.38
    5246 400 250D / 108-1710 $287.38
    5277 400 320T / 810-2600 $287.38
    5279 400 500T / 819-8327 $287.38
    5289 400 800T / 813-8471 $301.82

This was just a sample result from google I was quoting. I shouldnt have used the word "cheap." I'm sorry.

Rodriguez had 100s of movies before he shot film. Maybe you have too, but I doubt it. I doubt it a lot. You're better off making loads and loads of DV shorts cos then by the time you step up to film you'll have ironed out most of your mistakes.

But then again what would I know? I'm probably just talking **** .

I think nows a good time to leave this thread. Live the dream or something.

can you not patronise me skinhead. i've been making shorts since i was ten years old. i think i know what i'm doing...i just wanted some advice.

just because you're at film school and have been 'trained' to use 16mm doesn't mean someone couldn't pick up a book and read about how to do it all. and now i know what you're gonna say..that if i could go read a book then how come i asked that stupid question about using 8mm film, that's because i don't have a book yet and i know that some of you know quite a lot about using film.

    anyway. i need a cigarette.

i'm gonna make this movie on FILM.

    i'll see you at cannes.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">kodak films that start with the number '52', as in '5245' or '5279' above represent 35mm film stock. 16mm films start with the number '72', as in '7245' or '7279', so those prices above represent 35mm prices, which are usually about double 16mm prices.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">black and white is about 60% the price of color stock (about $70 USD per roll, if i remember correctly) but all the other associated costs are the same (developing, transfer, etc.)

sometimes you can find ilford b&w movie film for pretty cheap.

Yeah man cheers. I can hold my hands up and say I never knew that. Do you know what the codes are for 16 then as well?

Didn't mean to patronise Frostine. I hope you find you're book. And I do hope that someone off this board does make it to Cannes some day.

My own expieriences and a lot of previous posters have made me tired and cynical. The first time I used film, i messed up, but that doesnt mean you will. I need to go away for awhile and get my romanticism back.
